Summary:

A Small Orange Hosting is reliable and suitable for people looking for high performance hosting service at reasonable price.

A Small Orange may not be as popular as Bluehost hosting or Hostgator but they have managed to earn a good reputation and customer base over the last few years. Their main focus is providing all kinds of web hosting services including dedicated server hosting and cloud hosting. In this post, I’ll be reviewing A Small Orange Shared Hosting service. Before we begin, I would like to tell you all that Cult Blogger is also hosted on A Small Orange Hosting server. Hence, the review is written after 3 months of using their service.

A Small Orange provides various type of hosting services such as Hosting for business, Shared Hosting, Cloud Hosting, Dedicated server hosting, VPS Hosting and even Reseller Hosting. However, they are popular for their shared hosting and VPS hosting service. Three of their most popular hosting plans are ‘Startup Business’ plan, ‘Small Shared Plan’ and ‘Level II Cloud VPS’.

Startup Business plan is meant for the people who are looking for web hosting services to start their business sites or portals. This package is really good for the e-commerce sites and social sites. The Small Shared Plan is one of their most popular shared hosting plans and it offers decent 50GB of Bandwidth and 5GB of Storage with Unlimited Addon domains. Their shared hosting plans are powered with cPanel. The Level II Cloud VPS is for the people who are looking for hosting services to handle high real-time traffic on their websites.

If you’re looking only for shared hosting, the smallest package they provide, the “Tiny” plan which  starts from $2.92 per month with 500MB Disk Space and 5GB Bandwidth. This plan is only meant for the very small websites, in fact, static websites.

We would recommend you to either go with ‘Small’ plan or ‘Medium’ plan if you have a website which gets around 20k-30k daily traffic.

SERVER QUALITY

All of their shared hosting plans are powered by cPanel and  runs on Intel Xeon E5 Dual Hex Core processors and fully solid-state-drive (SSD) driven storage in redundant (RAID 10) arrays. Their servers are well optimized for WordPress and we can say this without any doubt as we are currently hosting 2 more sites on the Shared Hosting Server with WordPress installed on them along with caching plugins, database backup plugins, SEO plugins, Jetpack , premium theme plugins such as Visual Composer and a vBulletin forum at a time and there are no server outages or memory usage warnings. It was quite surprising since the vBulletin uses a lot of server resource but ASO Shared Hosting server was able to handle it pretty easily.

SHARED HOSTING FEATURES

Their shared hosting includes all the features that are available for cPanel, including the free SEO Tools and Cloudflare support.

The cPanel also has a ‘Pagespeed Optimizer’ module which uses Google Pagespeed to improve the speed of your website. At this price, this is quite impressive as many of the other shared hosting services doesn’t include this. When compared to other shared hosting services, A Small Orange provides almost all the necessary cPanel modules for all the shared hosting users.

A SMALL ORANGE PERFORMANCE AND UPTIME

Although the performance of the website was quite decent but the uptime may be a negative factor here. ASO claims 99% uptime but in the past 3 months, we experienced a downtime 3-4 times for almost 20-30 minutes. This was quite frustrating as it could result in the loss of website traffic and revenue. The overall performance of the website on the server is good and it supports all the heavy plugins like WooCommerce and bbPress but the uptime is definitely an issue.

TECHNICAL SUPPORT

The live Technical Support is good but sometimes you may have to wait for 10-15 minutes in a queue which is quite frustrating. We really feel that they should hire more people for their customer support. However, their technical support team is quite experienced and can help you in detail to solve your website issues.

FINAL VERDICT

If you’re looking for a reasonable web hosting with good performance then you can definitely go for A Small Orange hosting. However, if you can’t afford a downtime even for a minute, you may consider  some other options. Although the downtime we faced was 3-4 times in last 3 months, none of the downtimes exceeded 30 minutes. Hence, A Small Orange isn’t a bad investment at all if you can bear all these negatives.
